While sessioning the hill nearby, we watched the sun slowly set and the artificial lighting take over. We skied down the rest of the snowmobile trail, which lead us to the crossing here.
This is Montmorency Falls, which serves as the last major drop in elevation before the Morency River pour into the St. Lawrence. The falls are an impressive 30 meters higher than the Niagara Falls and are named after the once viceroy of New France. That the mound Ben is standing in front of is now entirely gone serves as testament to the volatility of these falls.
I was hoping to focus a little more on the falls in this photo. We were the only people in the park that night, and somehow we managed to get in free.
Since Nolan was on his skis, he was able to move around the frozen river basin much easier than Ben or I. By traversing up the side of this wall (something in between the texture of a ski slope and an ice rink), we were able to look down into the basin itself. Needless to say, we didn't stay up there for long.
There were a number of lights set up that went on and off while we were exploring. Our guess was that they were set up for outdoor enthusiasts, such as some of the ice climbers who were scaling the massive couloirs.
